Intro

With thousands of titles available in a streaming library, matching the right item with a viewer’s momentary craving is like finding the needle in the content haystack. One-size-fits-all approaches do not work anymore today: users demand a responsive platform that constantly delivers a compelling and engaging experience.

Provide 1to1 personalization involves a growing range of use cases and continuously testing and iterating new recipes to delight customers at every digital touchpoint. Page Personalization allows editors to do it easier, faster, and better.

What Is It?

Page personalization is an advanced UX Engine feature that contributes to elevate the user experience: the best engaging use cases are re-positioned to user interface (UI) page top positions. The UI blocks dynamically reshuffle in the page real estate based on user viewing habits in a multidimensional and holistic approach to user experience design and mapping.

Blocks with a high conversion rate (where the user clicks and watches content from) will show up in the top portions of the page, while carousels with a lower conversion rate will sit towards the bottom.  The page layout is also influenced by the context: user device and session daytime matters.

The final result is an adaptive UI that not only matches users’ tastes but also considers the customer journey path-to-content (from a hero banner? from a “popular titles” carousel? from “a new releases” carousel? from a “top picks for you” stripe?).

Page Personalization optimizes segments down to the individual user and automates targeting of video content.

Why It Is Useful?

Netflix research shows that if a typical subscriber doesn’t find something to watch in 1.5 minutes at maximum, she could lose interest and move on to something else.

Provide an engaging user experience reduces the effort and time required to find meaningful and relevant content.

Page personalization differs from traditional recommendation methods that manage the classic horizontal-only dimension: it also considers the vertical axis. These two dimensions combined will unleash a clean and relevant UI, decreasing time to content and improving playtime.
